Scriptures: 1 Samuel 25–27, Psalm 17, Psalm 73 |

In 1 Samuel 25, David is ready to act in anger, but Abigail steps in with wisdom, stopping him from making a decision he would regret. Grace sometimes shows up in interruption. God places the right voice at the right moment to redirect David before anger becomes sin. But by chapter 27, David grows weary of running and chooses to take refuge among the Philistines. It is a shift that shows less trust and more survival. Even faithful people can drift when pressure lingers for a long time.

Psalm 17 is a cry for vindication, asking God to see clearly and act justly. Psalm 73 goes even deeper, wrestling with a question many people carry…why do the wicked seem to prosper while the faithful struggle? The psalmist admits how close he came to losing perspective. But everything changes when he enters God’s presence. God always realigns what we see when we come close to Him.

What ties these together is the battle between reaction and trust. David almost reacts in anger, then later drifts in fear. The psalmist almost gives in to comparison and frustration. In every case, clarity only comes when God is brought back to the center.

Thankfully, Jesus is never ruled by anger, never driven by fear, and never shaken by comparison. Where the psalmist needed perspective, Jesus embodies it perfectly. He always does.

Challenge Question:

Write down one area where you’ve recently reacted out of emotion or drifted out of fear, and one situation where comparison has affected your perspective. Then choose one intentional step this week to pause, bring that area before Jesus, and respond from trust instead of reaction.
