Scriptures: 1 Chronicles 1–2, Psalm 43–44 |
1 Chronicles opens with long genealogies, names that can feel distant or repetitive at first glance. But beneath the lists is a reminder that God has been at work across generations. Every name represents a life, a story, a place in God’s unfolding plan. Grace shows up in continuity. God does not forget people, and He does not lose track of His promises over time. What feels like background is actually evidence of His faithfulness.
Psalm 43 and 44 bring a very different tone. They cry out for justice and renewed help. There is confusion here…God’s people remember His past faithfulness, but struggle to understand their present situation. They have not forgotten Him, but they still feel distant. Grace shows up in permission. God allows His people to ask hard questions and wrestle with fears or doubts without pushing them away.
What ties these readings together is perspective. The genealogies remind us that God’s story is bigger and longer than any single moment, while the psalms remind us that present struggles are real and worth bringing before Him. Grace holds both. God is faithful across generations, and He is near in the middle of confusion.
Jesus will step into the lineage of generations, fulfilling promises made long before. He also enters our questions and struggles, not avoiding them, but meeting us within them.
Challenge Question:
Write down one area of your life where you feel uncertain or are questioning what God is doing. Then list one reminder of His past faithfulness, either in your life or in Scripture, and choose to bring both honestly before Jesus this week.
