Scriptures: 1 Samuel 1–3 |
1 Samuel opens with desperation. Hannah’s longing for a child is deep, personal, and also misunderstood by those around her. She pours her heart out before the Lord with honesty. Grace shows up in God’s attentiveness. He sees what others miss, hears what others misunderstand, and responds in His timing…not ours. Samuel’s birth is not just an answer to prayer…it is the beginning of God moving in a new way among His people.
As Samuel grows, the difference in his life is clear. While Eli’s sons treat God’s presence carelessly, Samuel serves faithfully in the background. God is already at work raising up something new while addressing what has grown corrupt. Grace appears in preparation. God does not wait for things to collapse completely…He begins building what is next before the transition is obvious.
In chapter 3, God calls Samuel directly. At first, Samuel does not recognize His voice. It takes guidance, stillness, and repetition before he responds, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” This moment marks an important shift: God’s voice is no longer rare and distant…it is personal and direct! God does not only act…He speaks, calls, and draws people into relationship. Remember Jesus. He is the ultimate answer to longing, the faithful servant who honors God fully, and the living Word who speaks clearly. Where Samuel learned to recognize God’s voice, Jesus reveals it perfectly!
Challenge Question:
Write down one area where you are waiting on God or longing for Him to move, and one area where you may need to listen more closely. Then set aside a few intentional minutes this week to be still, ask Jesus to speak, and write down what you sense Him saying.
