Scriptures: Exodus 14–18 |
Their freedom begins immediately with fear. In Exodus 14, Israel stands trapped between the Red Sea and the pursuing Egyptian army, wondering if being rescued was a mistake. God does not shame them for their fear...He makes
a way where none existed! The sea opens, the people walk through, and the waters close behind them. Grace shows up as deliverance that is unmistakably God’s work. Who else could have done this? Israel does not fight their way out.
They walk forward in trust while God does the saving.
It’s important to know, though, that freedom does not instantly mature faith. In Exodus 15–17, celebration gives way to complaints. Hunger, thirst, and uncertainty test the people very quickly. God responds with provision in several ways! Water flows from a rock, bread falls from heaven, and a big victory comes through raised hands and dependence. However, Exodus 18 adds an important turn. Moses is exhausted, carrying more than he was meant to bear. Through Jethro’s wisdom, God provides structure, shared leadership, and rest. Grace is not only rescue from enemies, but protection from burnout. God cares about your sustainability, not just your survival.
Jesus is the One who makes a way through impossible barriers, provides living water in the wilderness, and invites the weary to share the load. Paul tells us that Christ is the Rock who followed Israel, and Jesus later declares Himself
the bread of life. Grace is not just something that gets us out of bondage...it is the presence of Jesus who walks with us after freedom begins.
Challenge Question:
Where have you seen God provide for you after deliverance, not just during it, and how does recognizing Jesus as your ongoing source of strength influence the way you respond to fear, need, or weariness today? Cry out to Him today.
