Scriptures: 2 Kings 18:1–8, 2 Chronicles 29–31, Psalm 48 |

These scriptures finally introduce one of Judah’s most faithful kings: Hezekiah. After years of spiritual decline, idolatry, and neglect, Hezekiah begins his reign by reopening the temple, restoring worship, and calling the people back to God! He doesn’t start with military reforms or political strategies, he starts with renewal. No matter how far people have drifted, God welcomes them back when they turn to Him wholeheartedly.

I truly love the urgency of Hezekiah’s response. The temple had been neglected for years, so he does not delay. The people cleanse what had been defiled, restore what had been abandoned, and celebrate God’s faithfulness once again. As worship returns, so does joy! When God’s people return to Him, they often rediscover blessings they had forgotten along the way.

Psalm 48 beautifully complements this moment. It celebrates God as a secure refuge, a faithful protector, and the true source of strength for His people. The city is not secure because of its walls or defenses, but because God is present there. Grace is found in God’s presence. Hezekiah understood that Judah’s greatest need was not better circumstances but renewed relationship with the Lord.

All of this points clearly to Jesus who cleanses what has been neglected, restores what has been broken, and brings people back into the presence of God. Where Hezekiah reopened the temple, Jesus opens the way to the Father completely. Grace reaches its fullness when restoration is no longer limited to a nation or a building, but becomes available to every heart through Christ.

Challenge Question:
Write down one area of your life where devotion to God has become neglected, distracted, or pushed into the background. Then choose one step this week to restore that area and make space again for Jesus to be at the center of it.
