Scriptures: Hosea 6-9 |

These chapters continue God’s plea to His people, revealing both the depth of their wandering from Him and also the depth of His desire for their return. In Hosea 6, the people speak words of repentance, but God sees that their devotion is shallow and short-lived. They know how to say the right things, but their hearts remain distant. Grace should always show up in
honesty. God is not satisfied with outward appearances when He is seeking genuine relationship!

One of the most powerful statements in these chapters comes when God says, “I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings.” The problem was never a lack of religious activity…the problem was that worship had become disconnected from love, obedience, and intimacy with God. God is not primarily asking for more rituals…He is asking for hearts that truly know Him.

As the chapters continue, the consequences of Israel’s choices become increasingly clear. Trusting political alliances, idols, and human solutions has left them spiritually empty. But even as judgment approaches, God’s words reveal a heart that still longs for restoration.

Jesus, too, confronted religious performance that lacked genuine
devotion and He repeatedly called people into real relationship with God. Where Israel offered sacrifices without surrender, Jesus offered Himself completely.

Challenge Question:
Write down one spiritual habit or activity you regularly practice. Then honestly ask yourself whether it has become routine or whether it is helping you grow closer to Jesus. It’s okay to change! Identify one practical way you can approach that habit this week with greater intentionality, love, and connection to God.
