Scriptures: 2 Samuel 8–9, 1 Chronicles 18 |
These chapters show David firmly established as king, with victory after victory surrounding him! Other nations are defeated, boundaries are secured, and the kingdom grows stronger. But it is one phrase that explains it all…“The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.” Grace shows up in
the source of our blessings. What looks like David’s success is actually God’s faithfulness. The victories are real, but they are not self-made.
Then everything slows down in 2 Samuel 9 with a single question…“Is there anyone still left from the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness?” David seeks out Mephibosheth, a forgotten, disabled descendant of Saul, and restores him, giving him a place at the king’s table. Grace always appears in kindness. In the middle of power and success, David does not
forget mercy. He shows God’s heart by lifting someone who had nothing to offer in return. We, too, have a seat at the table in God’s Kingdom.
In these chapters, strength and compassion live side by side. Victory does not replace kindness…but it does make space for it. Grace is not only seen in overcoming enemies, but in restoring the overlooked people as well. God’s blessing is not meant to stop with us…it is meant to flow through us
to others.
All of this points clearly to Jesus. He is the King who has all authority, but uses it to restore the undeserving. Where David shows kindness to Mephibosheth, Jesus pulls up a chair for us at His table…all because of His grace. Grace reaches its fullness when power and mercy meet perfectly in Christ.
Challenge Question:
Write down one area where you’ve experienced God’s favor or provision recently, and one person who may feel overlooked or forgotten. Then choose one intentional way this week to extend kindness or honor to that person as a reflection of Jesus.
