Scriptures: 1 Kings 3–4, 2 Chronicles 1, Psalm 72 |
These scriptures begin Solomon’s reign with a defining moment…he asks God for wisdom.but a specific KIND of wisdom. Not wealth, not power, but the ability to lead well. God responds generously, giving him wisdom and everything else alongside it. Grace shows up in the fact that God even responds to us at all. When the heart seeks what matters most, God provides beyond what was asked. Solomon’s early leadership shines in this…order, peace, and flourishing begin to take shape.
1 Kings 4 and 2 Chronicles 1 show the result…structure, provision, and influence spreading outward! The kingdom is stable, and people are thriving. But underneath it all is the source…God’s wisdom, not Solomon’s ability alone. Grace appears in foundation. What looks like success is actually because of dependence on God, not independence from Him.
Psalm 72 captures the heart of what a king should be…righteous, just, compassionate, and attentive to the poor and oppressed. It paints a picture of leadership that reflects God’s heart, where authority is used to serve rather than to control. Leadership is not about position…it is about representing God well to others.
Remember that Jesus is the greater King: perfectly wise, completely just, and infinitely compassionate. Where Solomon begins well but will later falter, Jesus remains faithful.
Challenge Question:
Write down one area where you need wisdom right now, and one way your decisions could impact others. Then be sure to seek Jesus first in that area, trusting His wisdom over your own.
