Scriptures: Exodus 22–24 |

These chapters continue unfolding what a covenant life looks like in real, everyday situations. Exodus 22 and 23 address justice, compassion, responsibility, and care for the vulnerable. God’s commands are not abstract ideas…they reach into how people treat one another, especially the powerless. Grace shows up in God’s concern for fairness and mercy. Freedom from slavery was never meant to lead to indifference toward others.

Exodus 24 brings the covenant to another defining moment. Moses reads God’s words aloud, and the people respond together, committing themselves to the relationship God has offered. Blood seals the covenant, and God invites leaders to come up the mountain and share a meal in His presence. This is a holy moment, but it is also so intimate! Grace is found in the nearness of God…He does not only speak from a distance…He draws people close.

Would you like to know just how wonderful God is? This covenant is established knowing human failure lies ahead. God commits Himself fully to this relationship before the people prove they can keep it. God binds Himself to His people…not because they are faithful, but because He is.

Jesus speaks of a new covenant sealed with His own blood, not the blood of animals. Where Moses mediated temporarily, Jesus mediates forever. God does not simply invite us into covenant…He becomes the covenant through His Son.

Challenge Question:

How does seeing God commit Himself to relationship before human faithfulness, fulfilled through Jesus, change the way you approach obedience? What is it you are thanking God for today?
