Scriptures: Exodus 33–36 |

After the betrayal of the golden calf, the question is no longer whether God is powerful, but whether He will remain with His people. Moses pleads with Him, refusing to move forward without God’s presence. God responds by reassuring him, promising that His presence will go with them. Grace shows up here as persistence! The relationship is strained, but God participates in a conversation instead of withdrawing.

In Exodus 34, God reveals His name and character in one of the most defining moments in the Old Testament. He describes Himself as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in faithful love. This is not God softening His standards…those remain intact. But He wants His people to also know His heart. The covenant is renewed! Once again it’s not because the people are faithful, but because God is. Grace takes the lead again, restoring what was broken.

Exodus 35 and 36 shift from words to action. The people respond willingly, generously, and joyfully. What was once misdirected worship now becomes obedience fueled by gratitude! God tells them to participate in building the place where His presence will dwell. Grace transforms failure into renewed purpose, turning hearts that once rushed into idolatry toward faithful devotion.

Think about this…where Moses asked to see God’s glory, Jesus reveals it fully! He is the visible expression of God’s compassion and faithfulness. Jesus establishes a new covenant that does not depend on human consistency.

Challenge Question:

Knowing that God chooses restoration over rejection, what step of obedience or surrender might He be asking of you today?
