Scriptures: Leviticus 1–4 |
God is now dwelling among His people, and the question becomes how a holy God remains close to imperfect people. The opening chapters outline offerings for worship, devotion, gratitude, and atonement. Contrary to popular belief, these sacrifices are not about appeasing an angry God…they are actually about making space for a true relationship! Grace shows up in God providing a way for people to draw near without being consumed by guilt or fear. God initiates the process…and the only way to respond is by bringing both our devotion and failure into the open.
Think about how specific these offerings are. Different sacrifices address different needs…gratitude, fellowship, unintentional sin, and even atonement. God is attentive to the nuance of what we need. Not all sin is the same, and not all worship looks alike. Grace is found in God’s willingness to meet people where they actually are, not where they pretend to be. These rituals teach Israel that sin can be named, dealt with, and forgiven without exile from God’s presence. Thank you, Father!
At the same time, these sacrifices also reveal their own limitations. They must be repeated. Blood is constantly shed…the system works, but it is incomplete. Grace hints that God’s ultimate solution will not be endless offerings, but a final one. That solution is Jesus. He becomes the fulfillment of every sacrifice described here. Where Leviticus provides temporary covering, Jesus provides complete forgiveness.
Challenge Question:
Take a few minutes to list the areas where you feel distance, guilt, or hesitation before God right now. Then choose one concrete step you can take today to bring one of those areas honestly before Him, trusting Jesus has already made the way open.
