Scriptures: Leviticus 8–10 |

Leviticus 8 begins with the ordination of Aaron and his sons. The ceremony is detailed, intentional, and public. God is setting people apart to serve Him and to represent Him to others. Grace shows up in the calling itself. God chooses flawed humans to stand before Him, not because they are perfect, but because He has made a way for them to serve. Their role is both a gift and a responsibility.

Leviticus 9 brings a powerful moment where the priests follow God’s instructions, sacrifices are offered, and God’s glory appears. Fire comes from the Lord and consumes the offering, and the people respond with awe and worship! This is what it looks like when God’s presence and human obedience meet.

Then Leviticus 10 interrupts the celebration. Nadab and Abihu act carelessly, offering “unauthorized fire", and the result is severe. This moment is sad but it reminds us that God’s holiness is not symbolic. Grace does not mean we can have casual worship or self-made spirituality. God desires closeness…but on His terms, not ours. God protects the people by teaching them that His presence is sacred, not something to be treated lightly.

We should be so grateful that Jesus is the perfect High Priest who never acts carelessly before the Father. Where human priests fail, Jesus remains faithful. He makes it possible for us to draw near to God with confidence while still honoring God’s holiness. Grace does not lower the standard…it fulfills it through Christ.
