Scriptures: Exodus 19–21 |

Exodus 19 brings Israel to Mount Sinai, where rescue turns into relationship. Beautiful. God does not save His people and then leave them directionless, He invites them into a covenant. The mountain shakes, thunder roars, and boundaries are set to show that God’s holiness matters. Grace appears in God’s invitation...He chooses a freed people and calls them His treasured possession. The law is not given to earn salvation, but to help form a people who already belong to Him.

Exodus 20 makes this clear. The commandments do not begin with rules, but with remembering. God reminds them who He is and what He has already done because obedience flows from deliverance, not the other way around. The law reveals God’s heart for worship, rest, life, and community. Grace shows up in structure, because unchecked freedom can quickly turn destructive.

Exodus 21 moves these commands into everyday life, addressing things like justice, dignity, and responsibility. God’s concern reaches into ordinary relationships and hard situations, because Grace meets people where they actually live, not just in moments of spiritual intensity. When Jesus arrives, He does not abolish the law...He fulfills it. Where Israel trembled at the mountain, Jesus calls people to draw near. He embodies God’s holiness and mercy together, showing us what life in covenant truly looks like.

Challenge Question:
How does seeing God’s law as an invitation into relationship, fulfilled through Jesus, encourage you to new obedience? What is God asking you to do?
