Scriptures: Genesis 47–50 |

Genesis 47 shows God’s people settling into Egypt, sustained by Joseph’s wisdom and God’s provision. What was once a place of refuge will one day become a place of bondage…but we aren’t there quite yet. Jacob blesses Pharaoh, reminding us that God’s presence with His people is always meant to overflow into the world around them. Grace often shows up as provision in unfamiliar places.

Genesis 48 and 49 turn toward blessing and legacy. Jacob blesses Joseph’s sons, crossing his hands to show once again that God’s ways are not bound by human expectations. The future unfolds according to grace, not human will or tradition. Even Jacob’s prophetic words over his sons, some hopeful and some heavy, show a God who sees the whole story and remains faithful through it all.

Genesis 50 closes this book with one of the clearest statements of grace in Scripture. Joseph reassures his brothers that what they meant for evil, God meant for good, to save many lives. Fear gives way to forgiveness and God’s purpose stands stronger than human failure. Death does not end the story…hope continues through God’s promise.

A final reminder about Jesus from Genesis. He comes from Judah’s line. He embodies God’s ability to turn evil into redemption and suffering into salvation. Like Joseph, He offers forgiveness instead of revenge and life instead of judgment. Genesis ends with confidence in God’s unfolding plan.

Challenge Question:

How does seeing God’s faithfulness span generations help you trust that His grace is at work beyond what you can see or control in your own life?
