Scriptures: Genesis 6–7 |
Chapter 6 is one of the heaviest turns in all of Genesis. Violence fills the earth and corruption becomes normal! The human heart bends consistently toward evil. The world God called good is now heavily broken, and the grief of God is almost startling for me every time I read about it. Thankfully, grace refuses to vanish. In the middle of widespread darkness, one quiet sentence gives us hope…“Noah found favor with the Lord.” I ask for this in my prayers almost every day.
Sometimes grace shows up first as God’s patience. Judgment does not come suddenly or carelessly, because God warns us. God waits and then provides a way of rescue. The ark itself is an act of mercy…a means of salvation before the flood ever begins. Faith looks like building something that makes no sense yet trusting God enough to keep hammering.
Genesis 7 brings the flood, and the waters rise exactly as God said they would. Judgment is real, and sin has consequences. But God Himself shuts the door of the ark, sealing Noah and his family inside. Salvation is not left in human hands. The same waters that bring destruction also lift the ark higher, carrying life safely above the chaos once again.
Remember that just as God provided one ark of salvation, He would later provide one Savior. Just as the door was shut by God, not Noah, salvation in Christ is secured by God’s work, not ours. Just as the flood did not have the final word, neither does judgment. Even when God judges sin, He never abandons His commitment to save.
Challenge Question:
What does the story of Noah show you about God’s balance of justice and grace, and how does that change the way you trust Him when obedience feels costly or confusing?
