Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 7–12 |

These final chapters of Ecclesiastes continue the honest wrestling with life’s complexity. The Teacher speaks on wisdom, aging, injustice, uncertainty, joy, and death, acknowledging that life is often unpredictable and difficult to control. Scripture does not pretend life is always simple…but it does teach us how to live faithfully within the struggle of it.

There is also a repeated call toward humility. Human beings cannot fully grasp everything God is doing. Wisdom helps, but it does not remove mystery. The future remains uncertain, and life moves quickly. But instead of leading to despair, this becomes a chance to live intentionally…to work faithfully, enjoy God’s gifts, remember the Creator, and walk reverently before Him. We are freed from the burden of trying to master everything and challenged instead to trust God within it.

Chapter 12 lands the entire book: “Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” After exploring pleasure, wisdom, success, and striving, the conclusion is beautifully simple. Life finds meaning not in endless accumulation or understanding, but in a relationship with God. Grace is found in simplicity, isn’t it? What truly matters is not hidden…it is returning to God wholeheartedly.

All of this points clearly to Jesus. He steps into the uncertainty and brokenness of life under the sun and brings eternal hope into it. Where Ecclesiastes exposes the limits of human striving, Jesus offers lasting purpose and life beyond the temporary.

Challenge Question:

Write down one area where you’ve been trying too hard to control, predict, or fully understand life right now. Then choose one intentional way this week to release that burden to Jesus and focus instead on simple faithfulness, gratitude, and trust in Him.
