Scriptures: 1 Kings 15:1–24, 2 Chronicles 13–16 |

These chapters continue the story of kings and kingdoms, but the deeper theme is trust. Some leaders seek God wholeheartedly for a season, while others rely on alliances, power, or personal strategy instead. Asa begins well, removing idols and calling the people back to God. There is humility and dependence early in his reign. Grace shows up in renewal. God responds when people turn back to Him sincerely and reorder their lives around His presence.

What stands out, though, is how easy it is to shift from dependence to self-reliance over time. Later, Asa faces pressure and chooses political strategy over trusting God fully. When confronted by the prophet, he resists correction rather than receiving it humbly. Grace appears in confrontation, here. God sends truth to call them back before their hearts harden too much and they are too far gone.

There is a sobering reminder here…starting well is important, but continuing faithfully matters too. Spiritual drift often develops slowly through fear, pride, or the temptation to trust visible solutions more than God Himself. Even correction is an act of God’s mercy, offering people the chance to return before they drift further.

All of this points clearly to Jesus. He is the King who remains fully dependent on the Father from beginning to end. Where human leaders begin faithfully but falter, Jesus stays perfectly consistent.

Challenge Question:

Write down one area where you may be relying more on your own strategy, control, or visible solutions than on God right now. Then choose one intentional step this week to trust Jesus more deeply in that area, even if it feels slower or less secure than your own plan.
