Scriptures: 1 Kings 22, 2 Chronicles 18–20 |
These chapters place fear, pride, worship, and trust side by side. In 1 Kings 22, King Ahab surrounds himself with voices that tell him what he wants to hear rather than what is true. Only Micaiah speaks honestly, and he is rejected because the truth is uncomfortable. Grace shows up in truth. God continues speaking clearly even when people would rather listen to easier voices.
Jehoshaphat’s story in 2 Chronicles 18–20 shows both wisdom and weakness. He makes unwise alliances, yet repeatedly turns back toward God when pressure comes. In chapter 20, surrounded by enemies and overwhelmed, he responds differently than Ahab…he gathers the people to seek the Lord together. Instead of pretending strength, he openly admits dependence: “We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” Grace appears in surrender. God responds powerfully when people stop relying on themselves and honestly seek Him.
What stands out most is the battle strategy God gives…worship before victory. The singers go out ahead of the army, praising God before the outcome is visible. God fights battles in ways human strength never could.
Jesus speaks truth faithfully and leads His people into trust instead of fear. Where earthly kings surround themselves with flattering voices, Jesus remains perfectly in line with the Father.
Challenge Question:
Write down one situation where you honestly do not know what to do right now, and one voice or influence that may be pulling you away from truth. Then choose one step this week to seek Jesus first in that situation through prayer, worship, or quiet dependence before rushing toward your own solution.
