Scriptures: 2 Kings 9–11, 2 Chronicles 22:10–23:21 |

These chapters are intense…judgment, overthrow, hidden survival, and eventual restoration all unfolding at once…why hasn’t a movie been made from all of this?? Jehu carries out judgment against the house of Ahab, while Athaliah seizes power in Judah and nearly destroys the royal line completely. Then, hidden in the middle of the chaos, is a child named Joash, quietly protected in the temple for years until the right moment comes. Grace shows up in preservation. Even when everything appears corrupted or collapsing, God is still protecting His promises behind the scenes.

I have often thought about how evil looks powerful…for a season. Athaliah rules, idolatry spreads, and violence seems unchecked. But God’s covenant is not erased by human rebellion. At the appointed time, truth comes back into the light, Joash is revealed, and covenant renewal begins again. God does not abandon His people forever.

There is also a reminder that revival often begins with rediscovering what was hidden or neglected. The temple is cleansed, covenant is renewed, and worship is restored. Grace is found in returning to the Lord! God’s people do not need a brand-new truth…they need to come back to the truth they abandoned.

I am so grateful that Jesus is the true promised King that no corrupt power can ultimately destroy. Where Joash was hidden and preserved, Jesus fulfills God’s covenant completely and eternally.

Challenge Question:

Write down one area of your life where truth, worship, or devotion to God may have been neglected or pushed into the background. Then choose one step this week to bring that area back into the light and renew your focus on Jesus wholeheartedly, just like Joash.
