Scriptures: 2 Kings 14–15, 2 Chronicles 25–27 |

These chapters continue the cycle of kings rising and falling, some beginning well and others drifting quickly. Amaziah starts by obeying God in certain areas, but eventually pride and self-reliance pull him off course. Uzziah experiences incredible success and strength, but later becomes prideful and oversteps boundaries God had established. Jotham, however, simply remains faithful. Grace shows up in consistency. God honors humble obedience far more than impressive success.

What stands out to me here is how dangerous pride becomes after seasons of blessing. Many of these kings handle struggle better than prosperity. Success slowly convinces them they are self-sufficient, and confidence turns into independence from God. Blessing is meant to grow our dependence on God, not replace it.

There is also a contrast between visible greatness and inward faithfulness. Some kings accomplish much outwardly while drifting spiritually, while others quietly walk faithfully without much attention. Grace is found in consistency. God values ongoing humility and obedience more than temporary achievement or reputation.

Throughout these chapters, the nation continues feeling the effects of leadership decisions across generations. But even in instability, God preserves His covenant and continues moving history toward redemption. Grace remains active even when people are inconsistent.

All of this points clearly to Jesus. He is the King who carries authority without pride, power without corruption, and success without self-exaltation. Where human leaders are undone by pride or inconsistency, Jesus remains perfectly humble and faithful. Grace reaches its fullness when our identity and confidence are no longer found in achievement, but in Christ, who leads with humility and truth forever.

Challenge Question:

Write down one area where success, comfort, pride, or self-confidence may have been pulling your heart away from dependence on God. Then choose one step this week to practice humility and remind yourself that every good thing ultimately comes from Jesus.
