Scriptures: 1 Kings 7–8, Psalm 11 |

These chapters bring the temple to completion, and in 1 Kings 8 Solomon leads the people in dedicating it to the Lord. The moment is filled with worship, sacrifice, prayer, and awe as God’s presence fills the temple. But here, Solomon recognizes something profound…“Even the highest heavens cannot contain you.” The temple mattered, but God was never limited to a building. Grace shows up in presence. God chooses to dwell with His people because He desires a relationship with us!

Solomon’s prayer, here, is laced with humility. He asks God to hear His people when they pray, repent, struggle, or wander. The temple becomes more than a symbol…it becomes a reminder that God listens, forgives, and restores. Grace appears in accessibility. God is holy and exalted, yet also attentive to ordinary people calling out to Him.

Psalm 11 adds another layer…“The Lord is in his holy Temple.” Even when the world feels unstable, God remains on His throne. Grace is found in that stability! Human foundations may shake, but God’s rule does not.

All of this points clearly to Jesus who is the true meeting place between God and humanity, and the one who brings God’s presence near permanently. Where the temple represented access to God, Jesus fulfills it completely. Grace reaches its fullness when we realize we do not simply visit God’s presence…through Christ, He dwells with us, too!

Challenge Question:

Write down one area where life feels unstable or uncertain right now, and one way you’ve experienced God’s presence recently. Then choose one day this week to pause, pray, and specifically remind yourself that Jesus is still present no matter what feels shaken around you.
