Scriptures: Deuteronomy 28–30 |

Deuteronomy 28 lays everything out plainly. Blessing and curse are placed side by side and God shows what life looks like when His people walk closely with Him…but also what happens when they drift. These chapters can feel heavy, but grace is present even here! God is honest and He refuses to blur the connection between choices and outcomes, because love always tells the truth. Obedience is never about earning favor, but about living connected with the God who gives life.

Deuteronomy 29 and 30 then pull the heart of God into focus. Even after naming future failure and exile, God speaks about restoration and mercy. He promises that when His people turn back to Him, He will gather them, heal them, and renew their hearts. When grace rises to the surface, failure is not final and distance is not permanent. God’s commitment runs deeper than human rebellion.

The call reaches its peak in Deuteronomy 30…“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Now choose life.” God longs for His people to live, to flourish, and to remain close to Him! Grace gives the freedom to choose and the promise of restoration when we return.

All of this points unmistakably to Jesus. He steps into the weight of the curse so we can receive blessing. Where obedience was required and failed, Jesus fulfills it fully. He does not merely set life before us…He becomes the way to life itself. Grace reaches its fullness when choosing life means choosing Christ.

Challenge Question:

Write down an area where your choices have been pulling you toward life, or one area where you may be drifting away from God. Then choose one specific action you can take this week to intentionally choose life by turning that area back toward Jesus.
