Scriptures: Joshua 1–2 and Psalm 105 |
Moses is gone, but the promise still stands, and God speaks directly to Joshua. The command is simple and repeated…be strong and courageous. This courage is not based in Joshua’s personality or experience, but in God’s presence. “I will be with you” becomes the foundation for everything that is to follow. Grace shows up in the Lord’s reassurance. God does not rush Joshua forward without reminding him that he will not step into this next season alone.
Joshua 2 adds an unexpected layer through the story of a prostitute named Rahab. While Israel prepares from the outside, God is already working on the inside of Jericho. Rahab responds in faith, protecting the spies and trusting the God she has only heard about. Grace shows up here in inclusion. God weaves an outsider into the center of His redemptive story, proving again that faith, not background, is what truly matters.
Psalm 105 ties these moments together by retelling God’s faithfulness across generations. God always remembers His covenant! He keeps His word. Every step forward is fueled by promises made long before. The psalm reminds us that what feels like a new beginning is actually the continuation of God’s long, faithful story. Grace is seen in God’s consistency. He has never stopped guiding His people toward what He promised. Jesus is the true leader who brings us fully into God’s promises. Like Joshua, His name means “The Lord saves,” and He leads with courage grounded in the Father’s presence. Like Rahab, we are invited in by faith, not our works.
