Scriptures: Deuteronomy 4–7 |
In these chapters, Moses calls the people to remember who God is before they move any further. He reminds them that no other nation has experienced a God so near, so involved, and so faithful. God spoke, rescued, guided, and revealed Himself not because Israel was impressive, but because He chose them. Grace again shows up in remembrance. Moses knows that forgetting God’s past faithfulness will eventually weaken present obedience.
Moses also warns them about prosperity. The danger ahead is not only hardship, but comfort! As they prepare to enter the land, God makes it clear that blessing must not lead to pride or forgetfulness. God’s commands are not meant to restrict joy, but to protect relationship. Grace teaches them that their identity is not built on success, strength, or numbers, but on belonging to God.
At the heart of this section is God’s love. He chose Israel not because they were many or mighty, but because He loved them and kept His promise. Grace is so personal here! God is forming a nation of people who know Him, trust Him, and reflect His character to the world.
All of this points us clearly to Jesus who perfectly remembers the Father, trusts Him fully, and lives in complete obedience. Where Israel was tempted to forget God in blessing, Jesus remains faithful even when given all authority.
Challenge Question:
Write down three ways God has shown faithfulness to you in the past. Then identify one habit, reminder, or practice you can intentionally build into your week to keep Jesus at the center when life feels full or successful.
