Scriptures: Matthew 5–7, Luke 6:20–49, 11:1–13 |

Jesus sits down and begins describing life in His Kingdom, and almost immediately He turns ordinary ideas about blessing upside down. The poor, grieving, humble, merciful, pure-hearted, and persecuted are called blessed! He tells His followers to love their enemies, forgive, give generously, refuse retaliation, and treat others the way they want to be treated. Grace is found in a Kingdom where our value is not determined by power, success, or how the world measures us.

But Jesus keeps moving beneath outward behavior to the heart. Murder begins with anger. Adultery begins with lust. Giving, prayer, and fasting can become performances designed to impress people. Worry can reveal where our trust really rests. Jesus wants hearts genuinely transformed by relationship with the Father!

That relationship is especially clear when Jesus teaches His disciples to pray. God is not presented as distant or reluctant. Jesus teaches them to begin with “Our Father,” then encourages them to ask, seek, and knock. Prayer is not about convincing an unwilling God to care…it just grows from trusting the goodness of a Father who already does.

Jesus finishes with a picture of two houses. Both hear His words, but only one builder actually puts them into practice. The difference becomes visible when the storm comes. Let this remind us that His words become the foundation we actually build our lives upon.

Challenge Questions:

Which teaching from these chapters most challenges the way you are currently living, not simply what you believe?

If someone examined the way you actually live, what would they conclude your life is being built upon?
