Rest Day |

This week moved from Daniel’s visions of spiritual conflict and resurrection hope into the return from exile and the rebuilding of Jerusalem. After decades of waiting, God’s people finally came home. But returning did not mean everything immediately became easy. There were ruins to rebuild, opposition to overcome, priorities to reorder, and memories of what had been lost.

Grace showed up in God’s faithfulness. He kept the promise He had made through Jeremiah, moved a foreign king to release His people, sustained them through resistance, and reminded them through Haggai that His presence mattered more than the size or splendor of what they were building. God had not simply brought His people out of exile. He was teaching them how to live with Him at the center again.

You also saw how each of these stories leads toward Jesus. Daniel anticipated the resurrection. Ezra recorded the rebuilding of the temple. Haggai promised that God’s glory would return. Jesus brings those threads together. He is the risen King, the true temple, and the presence of God among His people. The ultimate hope was never simply getting back what had been lost. It was getting back to God Himself.

As you rest today, consider what God has been rebuilding in you. Restoration happens slowly. Sometimes all you can see is a foundation where you remember an entire building. But unfinished does not mean abandoned. God can be deeply at work in something that still looks incomplete.

Reflection Questions:

What area of your life currently feels unfinished, and have you mistaken “unfinished” for “God isn’t working”?

Where have resistance or delays caused you to question something you once believed God was calling you toward?
