Rest Day |
This week brought the Old Testament story toward an important transition. Zechariah looked forward to a humble King who would be pierced yet ultimately reign. Esther showed God’s providence protecting His people. Malachi ended with Israel waiting for the Lord to come, while Ezra reminded us that even after exile and restoration, the deepest problem remained unchanged: God’s people still needed transformed hearts.
Grace showed up in God’s faithfulness. Through exile, rebuilding, opposition, compromise, and generations of waiting, He never abandoned His promises. Again and again, human beings failed to remain faithful, yet God continued moving the story toward redemption.
All of this leaves us looking toward Jesus. The Old Testament has shown us the need for a better King, a better Shepherd, a final sacrifice, and hearts made new. The story is waiting for someone who can finally accomplish what God’s people could never accomplish for themselves.
Reflection Questions:
Where are you seeing evidence that Scripture is actually changing you rather than simply teaching you?
As the story moves closer to Jesus, what promise or theme from the Old Testament are you most eager to see fulfilled?
