Rest Day |
This week, Ezekiel took us through some difficult territory. We saw hidden idols exposed, generations repeating destructive patterns, Jerusalem finally experiencing the consequences of years of rebellion, and surrounding nations discovering that they were accountable to God as well. Beneath all of it was a consistent warning about the human heart: what we allow to grow inside us eventually changes the way we live.
Grace showed up in God’s persistence. He continued speaking when people refused to listen. He offered the option of repentance when they assumed change was impossible. He searched for someone willing to stand in the gap, remained present through devastating loss, and confronted pride before it could convince people they no longer needed Him. Even God’s hardest words revealed that He had not stopped caring.
You also saw Jesus emerging through these chapters as the answer to what Ezekiel’s generation could not fix. He gives the new heart they desperately needed. He stands in the gap no one else could fill, and where pride causes humanity to grasp for power, Jesus reveals a completely different kind of King, one who humbles Himself to rescue those who have fallen.
As you rest today, look beyond the individual stories and consider the patterns underneath them. Ezekiel repeatedly asks us to examine what is happening inside our hearts before it becomes visible in our lives.
Reflection Questions:
What pattern in your life has God been making you increasingly aware of lately?
Where are you most vulnerable to pride, self-reliance, or believing you can handle something without Jesus?
